Studio Policies
FAQs
-
Our classes start and end promptly so please ensure you are ready on your mat at least five minutes before the class begins. Late entry is disruptive for the class, as many of our classes start with breathwork/meditation. We lock the doors as soon as class starts. If you’re late you will not be able to enter the studio and you will be marked as a no-show. Please do not knock on the doors.
-
Basic Space’s class cancellation policy is 8 hours. If you do not cancel with at least 8 hours prior notice, this will constitute as a late cancellation and your credit will not be returned to your account. If you have an unlimited membership with us you will be charged £10. ClassPass or other external third-party bookings are liable to their cancellation policy. We cannot override this and will not mark anyone as ‘present’ when they do not show.
-
Please check-in with someone from our team before you head into the studio so they can mark you present. If you are visiting via ClassPass you must sign our waiver before attending class. Please note, it is your responsibility to ensure you are checked-in properly.
-
Phone use is not permitted during class at any time for safety reasons and out of respect for your teacher and those around you. Please store phones in the studio cupboard when you arrive and focus on being present in the space.
-
If you’d like to film your practice, you are welcome to book a private class or hire our space for a shoot. Under no circumstance are you to film yourself in a public class.
We love seeing your photos before and after practice, or of our space in general, but please be mindful of our members and do not take photos of anyone without their consent.
-
Bikes are not allowed in the studio [not even the fold-up ones]. Please lock your bikes to one of the benches, there are bike stands by the pub if you need something more secure. If you forget your lock it’s not our responsibility.
If you arrive on a public e-bike, please ensure it is left in a respectable parking place on the street as they are not allowed in the private courtyard. Please do not block our neighbour’s entrances or their cars.
-
Please consult with your doctor first before booking any of our classes.
If you're pregnant, please let the teacher know ahead of class. We don't recommend starting a new movement practice in your first trimester. We also don't recommend practicing any new movements you haven't been doing before your pregnancy.
If you already have a strong daily practice, then feel free to continue with your regular classes*. Listen to your body to know when to take a break from these classes. When you start feeling really restricted, we recommend our prenatal class.
*We do not recommend our yin classes as the increase in the hormone Relaxin can allow students to stretch beyond their normal capacity, leading to instability.
The following teachers are pregnancy trained: Jess L, El, and Sam.
The following teachers are mothers themselves: Jaime, Mubeena, Maria (soon to be).

If you're new to our studio, please give yourself extra time to find us. We are located at 5a Priory Grove, in a private courtyard off the residential street. We are the first studio on the right as you walk down.
Our lovely studio neighbours are artists, architects and filmmakers, so we ask that you keep outside noise to a minimum and refrain from shouting on your phone in the yard.
-
We don't have individual lockers, but our jacket storage/cubbies are inside the studio so your things will be safe.
-
We are a small studio. We have a large bathroom that you're welcome to change in, but no changing room facilities/showers. We get quite busy evenings and weekends so it's best to arrive in your gear if you can.
-
We provide mats and blocks, but you are welcome to bring your own or a towel. In the colder months, bring a sweater for savasana + for the chill/yin classes. We do our best with the heating, but our beautiful windows can make things a little chilly.
-
We refer to most of our classes as 'Yoga' or 'Pilates' but all of the teachers are quite different. You can read through our teacher bios for more insight into their teaching styles, or try them all and find your perfect fit. We've made notes on teachers who move a little more fast-paced if that is or isn't your thing.
-
Beginners are very much welcome! :) We recommend letting us know if it’s your first class so we can give you some extra guidance.
Our favourites for beginners are Tamara, Britt, and Shardaé (Yoga) and Zoe, and Lily (Pilates), but if you're happy to get stuck-in then all of our teachers will accommodate you! We've all been new once.
